Re-potting Transplants or Why I Desperately Want a Potting Shed

While I shudder to think of anyone looking at this blog thinking that this is what my kitchen looks like, it is quite true that a picture is worth a thousand words. So here is my thousand words showing my kitchen counter after a couple of hours of re-potting transplants into small peat pots.

Pictures have a tendency to make things appear less dirty than they are at times and this is no exception. There was potting mix, vermiculite and peat everywhere. It took forever to get it out from between the boards of the floor and the seams of the sink, etc. But the result is so worth it.

Just look at all those lovely plant-lings ready for action.

I'm curious about where you sourced your vermiculite. I'm in northern VA and have had a hard time finding the coarse type, enough that I'm about to give up and just use sharp sand in my SFG mix. I was all set to order some vermiculite online, but when I got to the checkout, the shipping cost more than the vermiculite, to the tune of nearly $200! Uh, no way.

Pamela,

I had the same problem and actually have found it more difficult to get this year than last.

Basically there is a very small window of time and a limited amount that is usually available in Lowe's and Home Depot. While it is more expensive per unit by a small amount that what you find online, there is no shipping so it is much cheaper.

Hope you do find some! Great stuff.
